Modern Canna Cannabinoids Education & Reference, CBD Testing

Cannabis - Marijuana oil extracts in jars and leaves for treatment. The health benefits of CBD are well documented. Research has shown that this cannabinoid is especially useful for treating neural pain and seizures. Furthermore, it may also have anti-cancer properties. New studies are also showing that CBD is just as beneficial for the mind and promoting mental well-being. What exactly is the role of cannabis as it relates to the brain? More specifically, to what extent does it alleviate anxiety?

How Does CBD Treat Depression?

Roughly 40% of the U.S. adult population have confessed to having an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives. This has led to an increase in people seeking alternative treatments over anti-depressants produced by Big Pharma. How is properly tested CBD a viable alternative?

First, it helps to understand the serotonin receptor 5-HT1A. This regulates serotonin levels, or what is colloquially known as the “feel good hormone.” Most anti-depressant medications act as serotonin reuptake inhibitors by blocking the brain’s ability to absorb the hormone. This increases the amount of serotonin in the synaptic region, thereby allowing the brain cells to transmit higher serotonin signals that elevate mood.

CBD behaves much like a serotonin reuptake inhibitor by boosting the receptors’ ability to signal to one another.

The Studies Behind CBD for Depression

There are plenty of anecdotal evidence of users swearing by the effects of CBD for treating a range of anxiety disorders. Of course, some will claim the effects are nothing more than a placebo. Recent studies, though, reveal that this may not be the case.

One study found that CBD helps regenerate lost neurons in the hippocampus region of the brain. Brain scans show that those with chronic depression often have a smaller hippocampus.

In another study, researchers concluded that CBD may be a viable treatment for treating multiple anxiety disorders, such as post-traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive, and panic disorders.

While more studies are needed, the early research available certainly validates the anecdotal claims from thousands of users who reported positive results.

CBD Testing: Why It Matters

For CBD oil and tincture manufacturers, the study results paint a very rosy picture for the industry. This is all the more reason to submit samples of your products to a Florida testing lab. Testing ensures minimal traces of the psychoactive compound THC, which remains illegal in Florida, except under certain medical provisions.

As it relates to depression, THC may actually have the opposite effect and induce anxiety attacks in some users. This is especially true in high doses and for those already suffering from anxiety disorders. Testing ensures oils are void of THC that can potentially lead to negative side effects.
